These should be included with your application to OHSU
We receive many applications from students who want to come to OHSU for an "audition" elective in order to strengthen their application to residency OHSU students are given first priority in being placed in elective slots. If slots remain they are open to students from any US medical school. However, we do not automatically interview all applicants who do an elective. Some departments have developed internal policies which are listed below.
Emergency Medicine:
- A letter stating why you wish to complete an elective in Emergency Medicine
- Your Curriculum Vitae
- A letter of recommendation
Family Medicine:
- Secondary Application available from the department
Internal Medicine

- Medical Student Elective Reference Form

Neurology

Obstetrics and Gynecology:
- Your Curriculum Vitae
OBGYN POLICY: In order to reduce the chances of having students come for electives then not being interviewed, we will review the grade transcript and board scores (submitted as part of the OHSU School of Medicine visiting student application) of each applicant, so that we can assess their chances for being offered an interview. Students will be appraised of this assessment, and may choose not to come if their chances of being interviewed are not good. I there is more than one student who wants an elective slot, preference will be given to the one who we anticipate interviewing. Since it is impossible to predict the applicant pool before November, we will do our best to make this assessment, but do not guarantee that we will interview all students who come for electives. We also recognize that some students want to take our electives for reasons other than auditioning for residency. Please indicate in your application if that is the case, and you will be offered a slot on a first-come/ first-served basis.
