Construction of the Biomedical Research Building was supported by the Oregon Opportunity, a public/private partnership to expand OHSU's leadership role in biomedical research. This building is a key element in translating leading-edge research into patient care.
The BRB connects the existing research quadrangle on the Marquam Hill Campus with the outpatient clinics. This fosters collaboration and allows researchers and clinicians to work in an interactive, team-oriented atmosphere.
The result of this is what is known as "translational research," that is, the moving of new knowledge from the research lab to patient care. By so doing, OHSU can increase the commercial viability of its intellectual property and thereby serve as a cornerstone for the emerging bioscience industry in Oregon.
