The picture you see here shows me hiking Washington’s Fall Creek Trail. In fact, just a few days before writing this letter, I did a 12-mile hike to Paradise Park on Mt. Hood, and I typically run six miles five times per week. As someone who suffered for over 30 years from the severe chronic back pain that comes from degenerative arthritis, I never imagined any of this would be possible. People like you have made world-class results possible at OHSU.
In 2007 I was visiting my grandson in Iowa when my feet literally went out from under me and I collapsed. I knew something was seriously wrong. As soon as I got back from my trip, I made an appointment at the OHSU Spine Center.
Rather than pain medication or surgery, the team at OHSU began me on a course of physical
therapy that was completely different than anything I experienced before. The way they treated me made me feel I mattered, which really contributes to a better sense of overall health. They literally helped me take control of the care of my spine.
At OHSU, you know that you’re in a place that’s part of the cutting-edge of medical knowledge. They also respect you at every level, from the reception area to the physical therapists to the doctors to the technicians. They addressed me as an individual. They constantly asked me for feedback, gave me instantaneous responses and developed an individualized program with over 40 different exercises designed for my specific needs.
I am a native Oregonian with a degree in forestry who worked for the U.S. Forest Service. Enjoying the natural beauty of the forest is an important part of who I am. I can’t imagine my life without that. I am so grateful to OHSU for what they’ve given me.
Please do your part and make your gift to support OHSU today!
