David Wilson, M.D. has been the director of the Casey Eye Institute since 2005, but his relationship with OHSU goes way back.
Wilson first arrived at OHSU more than 17 years ago. He has served Casey in many capacities, first as a faculty member and then as the director of the ophthalmology residency program, the retina fellowship program and the Christensen Eye Pathology Laboratory.
What inspires him about OHSU? “Casey Eye Institute is one of the top eye institutes in the world,” he says. He is particularly excited about the expansion of Casey’s research space in the Biomedical Research Building and the new Casey clinic at the Center for Health & Healing on the South Waterfront. “This new space will allow more opportunities for Casey’s faculty and staff to conduct cutting-edge research and treat more patients with eye disease,” he says.
According to Wilson, the eyes are our windows into the brain, as vulnerable as they are complex. He and his team at Casey are grateful for the generosity of people in the community who enable them to pursue their important work. “I am convinced we will realize the potential for OHSU as a national leader in ophthalmology,” he says.
