Biomedical Research Building
They're changing the world. Let's build them the best.
Five years ago Dr. Brian Druker and colleagues from OHSU, working with Novartis Pharmaceuticals, created the first-ever therapy to target the molecular cause of a form of leukemia. This amazing advancement, a pill called Gleevec, has been hailed around the world as the beginning of the end of cancer as we know it. Gleevec has proved that a new era in medical science has begun — the era of cures.
Today at OHSU hundreds of scientists are at work on thousands of active research projects that are creating new knowledge about disease prevention, detection and treatment for the most dreaded diseases of our time. On average, they announce a new discovery or innovation once every four days.
Where scientists conduct their work has a huge impact on discovery. State-of-the-art facilities give exceptional researchers critical tools and space for collaboration. New grant dollars, momentum and innovation follow. Breakthroughs happen faster. OHSU's Biomedical Research Building is among the most advanced research laboratories in the world, a place where world-class scientists work together to translate basic science research into new drugs and other world-changing treatments such as Gleevec.
Because this project is so important to our future, public dollars have paid part of the cost of construction. The rest, however, must come from philanthropy. Today OHSU is actively seeking support for this project from enlightened donors with a vision for the future.
