Center for the Study of Weight Regulation and Associated Disorders

Scientists and physicians at the Center for the Study of Weight Regulation collaborate to answer key questions about the regulation of body weight and its associated disorders, such as diabetes, dyslipidemia and cachexia. Problems associated with the body’s system of weight regulation pose an increasing public health threat. On one extreme is obesity. Nearly 2 in 3 adults are overweight or obese today. Obesity is closely linked with a host of health disorders, including an alarming increase in adult and pediatric diabetes cases. On the other extreme, researchers at the center are also studying potentially lethal conditions that cause cachexia (involuntary or uncontrolled weight loss).

The Center’s laboratories in the Biomedical Research Building link an interdisciplinary team of experts in the physiology, epidemiology, prevention and treatment of obesity and other weight-regulation disorders. The center is internationally recognized for its unique mission and the quality of its staff. But its work would not be possible without community support. You can help the CSWR further its special research, education, patient care and outreach efforts by making a tax-deductible donation.
