OHSU’s Center for Healthy Aging combines research on successful aging, education for health professionals in the care of older adults, and selected health services to people in their 40s, 50s and beyond. The focus of the Center is on aging well, promoting health, preventing illness and helping people deal with chronic medical conditions when they do occur. Under the leadership of center Director Heather Young, investigators at the center are working to better understand aging and how to help when individuals want to make positive changes in health behaviors.
The Center is also home to the Oregon Geriatric Education Center, offering educational programs to health care students and practicing professionals on a variety of issues and topics related to aging. The Center is currently recruiting volunteers for a new study entitled “The Energy Balance Study: Aging Well Through Nutrition and Activity.” The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of nutrition and physical activity over a five-year period.
