FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How long is the program?
A: It is a10-week program.

Q: What are beginning and ending dates?
A: Dates are flexible. We require all students to arrive by June 15.

Q: How does the program work?
A: The aim of our program is to give students in-depth research experience in neuroscience with an established scientist. Each student is assigned to a laboratory while working on his/her project. In addition, the program includes lectures on basic topics in neuroscience. At the end of the program, each student will give a 20-minute presentation.

Q: What are the research topics of the summer program?
A: There are 14 faculty members at NSI. The research topics depend on the faculty research interests (see <www.ohsu.edu/nsi/faculty/>).

Q: Do students receive a stipend?
A. Yes, the stipend is $3000 for 10-week program.

Q: Do you provide housing assistance?
A: Affordable housing is available in a residence hall. Rooms are usually available from mid-May to mid-August. On request, we also provide a list of area apartments and hotels.

Q: Do you cover travel expenses for my school to Portland?
A: Airfare is provided for students who have permanent residency outside of Oregon. Travel stipends for foreign applicants is on a case by case basis, depending on funds available.

Q: Who is eligible for the program?
A: This program is for U.S. undergraduate students majoring in biology, neuroscience, bioengineering, psychology, and related sciences. You need to complete an application, send an official school transcript (GPA 3 or better) and 2 letters of recommendation from people who know you.

Q: When is the application deadline?
A: To be considered, all application materials must be received at NSI by February 1, 2008.
