Date: May 3, 2012 (Thursday)
Time: 10 a.m.
Theme: Mitochondria and Energetics (stroke, peripheral neuropathy)
Module: Overview
Session: An overview of mitochondrial energetics
Instructor: Mike Forte, Senior Scientist, Vollum Institute; Professor, Neurology, OHSU
Objectives: This session will overview how mitochondrial dysfunction can contribute to both acute disease (e.g. stroke) and chronic (e.g. neurodegeneration, MS, peripheral neuropathy) disease.
Study questions:
  1. What functions do mitochondria serve other than ATP production?
  2. What is the role of mitochondria in 'oxidative injury'?
  3. What is the mitochondrial permeability transition?
  4. What is meant by "quality control" of mitochondria?
