| Neurodegeneration (ALS and Alzheimer's) |
| Overview |
| Astrocytes, oxidative stress and neurodegeneration |
| Joe Beckman (visiting faculty) |
| This session will explore the role of astrocytes and oxidative injury in neurodegeneration and
consider the specific issue of SOD and ALS. |
- How are oxidants produced in neurons and glia?
- What natural mechanisms limit the general of free radicals?
- Discuss the mechanisms by which SOD1 mutations are thought to cause ALS.
