STATEMENT FROM THE SKIPPER FAMILY

PORTLAND, Ore. -- On Tuesday, Oct. 16, Art Skipper Jr., 31, and Ted R. Skipper, 37, both from Gresham, were involved in a single-engine plane crash east of Sandy, Ore. Art suffered fatal injuries in the crash. His cousin Ted suffered internal injuries and broken bones, and is listed in serious condition at OHSU Hospital at Oregon Health & Science University.

Art worked for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, then taught at David Douglas High School before joining the Portland Fire Bureau last year. Ted worked for Boeing Aircraft doing planning, production and computer programming for 15 years before starting his own business, S3 Manufacturing in Gresham, this past year.

The Skippers, well known in their community for 110 years of public service in the Portland Fire Bureau and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, wish to thank friends and members of the community for their outpouring of concern and support. The family will continue to give medical updates on Ted Skipper as information becomes available. The Art Skipper family will also be releasing information regarding a memorial service for Art Skipper Jr.

For those of you who wish to make a financial contribution in memory of Art, two funds have been established: The Art Skipper Memorial Fund, to benefit his wife Kamala and their unborn child, and The Art Skipper Scholarship, which will be awarded to a high school track and field athlete.
