DOERNBECHER CANCER SURVIVORS TO UNVEIL NIKE SHOES THEY DESIGNED; TO BE SOLD TO RAISE MONEY FOR FOUNDATION

WHAT: Five Doernbecher Children's Hospital cancer survivors designed their own Nike shoes to be sold nationwide to raise money for Portland's world-class academic pediatric health center. The shoes will be unveiled at a special "Doernbecher Freestyle" fund-raising event at the Wieden + Kennedy building. Each artist will share his/her personal story of triumph over cancer and the motivation for his/her shoe design.

Nike will sell a limited run of the shoes later this year. Proceeds from each pair sold will help patients at Doernbecher.

WHO: Five Doernbecher cancer patients, aged 11 to 17; H. Stacy Nicholson, M.D., M.P.H., professor and head, OHSU Doernbecher Pediatric Hematology/Oncology; Marcus Tayui, Nike shoe designer who collaborated with the children; Michael Doherty, Nike creative director and board member of Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation.

WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 25, 4 to 8 p.m.

WHERE: Wieden + Kennedy, 224 N.W. 13th Ave., Portland, Ore.

NOTE TO EDITORS: The five Doernbecher designers and Nike and DCH representatives will be available for interviews prior to the unveiling from 4 to 4:30 p.m., and we encourage you to attend the entire event.
