MEMORY AND AGING EXPERT GARY SMALL VISITS OHSU FOR BRAIN AWARENESS SEASONThe UCLA neuroscientist is an expert in improving mental performance and decreasing forgetfulness
Small's research focuses on early detection and prevention of Alzheimer's disease and other mental disorders caused by aging. His work utilizes state-of-the-art imaging and genetic techniques. Small has also authored more than 400 scientific publications and the international best-seller The Memory Bible. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Time, and on CNN. OHSU's Brain Awareness Season is an annual event to engage young and old in the science of the brain, and to direct participants to Portland metropolitan area neuroscience resources. The season culminates with the national celebration of Brain Awareness Week, March 7-14. This year's roster includes a Portland visit by the National Public Radio program "Science Friday" and a series of lectures on various brain topics. The centerpiece event is a Brain Fair at OMSI featuring hands-on exhibits and activities that allow visitors to view real brains, prizes, an Albert Einstein look-alike contest, brain art; and OHSU scientists and health care providers. The theme of all of this year's events is "Your Health is a State of Mind: The Brain/Body Connection." Sponsors of Brain Awareness Season include OHSU, OMSI and Pfizer. |
