Thank you for your interest in the Neurology Residency Program at OHSU. Please take some time to browse our website and learn more about the program. The neurology residents at OHSU experience a unique combination of structured academics, varied clinical exposure, devoted faculty, and a department centered on resident well-being. All patient care centers are located within walking distance on "The Hill" or within a three minute aerial tram ride to our waterfront campus. OHSU is a tertiary referral center that draws primarily from a patient base throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California. There is strong representation of all subspecialty areas of neurology and OHSU faculty are nationally recognized within their fields. Resident training involves state of the art neuroradiology and neurointerventional facilities, as well as a neuro critical care unit which create a seamless flow of patient care. The University neurology inpatient ward and an expanded epilepsy monitoring facility are located within the recently constructed OHSU hospital. Many emerging diagnostic and therapeutic modalities are being initiated here, and residents participate in this from the first day of training. The OHSU waterfront campus opened in 2006. The Neurology Department occupies the 8th floor of the Center for Health and Healing with computerized exam rooms and state of the art neurophysiology testing areas. The waterfront campus is connected to the main campus by an aerial tram that has become a symbol of this vibrant and growing city. Our residents are quite successful whether they choose to pursue careers in private practice or in academics. Faculty mentors provide guidance through this process from the beginning of residency to the end. For many of us, ideas that attract our interest develop into projects that we carry into fellowship training. The neurology department fosters this process by supporting our attendance at national conferences, assigning a career mentor with whom one meets regularly, and by creating an environment that values academic activity. Resident well-being is a priority and strength of our program. In addition to academics, residents have ample personal time to enjoy the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Portland is an affordable family-friendly city with many unique neighborhoods. It offers a variety of restaurants and cultural events typically found only in cities twice its size. In addition to our individual travels and hobbies, we are a close-knit group who enjoy spending time with each other outside of work. Whether hiking or skiing at Mt. Hood, bike riding through town, or barbequing at the coast, we are always looking for new ways to explore and enjoy Portland and its environs. We hope you will consider a visit to OHSU!
