OHSU is located on 116 acres in the wooded hills of southwest Portland. Many of the campus
buildings have excellent views of the Portland metropolitan area and the Willamette river.
The site also provides spectacular views of Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens. As Oregon's only
academic health center, OHSU is devoted to clinical care, education, and research in the health
sciences.
Portland is a progressive, eclectic, and dynamic city with diverse neighborhoods, outstanding
restaurants, a strong public transportation system consisting of buses, light rail, and trolleys,
and many cultural and sporting activities.
The Portland climate is temperate. Summers are moderately warm, dry and sunny with an average
high temperature of 79° F (26° C). In the winter the temperature rarely drops below 32° F (0° C).
Even though Portland is known for 'rainy' winters, the area typically receives 37 inches of rain
per year, which is less than Houston (45 inches), Baltimore (42 inches), or Atlanta (49 inches).
The surrounding areas provide abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation. There are more than
100 parks within the city limits and many more in the greater metropolitan area. Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens,
Mount Jefferson, the Columbia Gorge and the Oregon Coast are all within a few hours drive of Portland,
and offer hiking, mountain climbing, camping, fishing, sailing, some of the best wind surfing in the world,
and year round skiing and snowboarding. Some useful Portland links are listed below:
