The translational mission of the MARC continues into our educational programs. This mission takes several forms:
Fostering clinical/preclinical synergies
We aim to facilitate communication and create synergies between pre-clinical (basic-science) researchers and those, like physicians, who work in the clinical setting with human patients. This exchange continues beyond the MARC to other NIDA-funded centers.
Training the next generation of substance-abuse researchers
The MARC is involved in training the next generation of scientists and clinical practioners by pairing pre-clinical trainees with clinical investigators and vice versa.
Developing the public-outreach impact of scientific investigators
Research is most powerful when its findings can be communicated beyond the walls of the laboratory. The MARC is implementing a career-development program for center researchers to improve their communication, presentation, and mentoring skills; this program includes an evaluation component to track its success.
Providing venues to communicate our work
Finally, the MARC education core generates opportunities for our researchers to present their findings to national scientific audiences while also translating our work to the public via community outreach and K-12 school programs.
