Systematic reviews of the literature on effects of specific health cares are done by teams of healthcare professionals.
Finding Evidence Based Medicine Reviews
- Ovid Fulltext Databases
ACP Journal Club (ACP), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials(CENTRAL), Cochrane Database of Systematic
Reviews (CDSR), and Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE).
Tip: Check to see how recently the review has been updated. Evaluate the methodology used
to create the review.

- HealthGate
Evidence-Based Medicine
Solutions
A database of over 100 peer-reviewed, evidence-based clinical treatment
guidelines. Each guideline has both a provider and consumer version and
includes physician and patient interactive care management tools.
Guidelines are created and updated by OHSU, Duke University Medical
Center, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Emory University School
of Medicine. Registration is required for all new users.
- National Guidelines Clearinghouse
A public resource for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines from more than 100 institutions
and organizations. It is sponsored by the Agency for
Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
in partnership with the American Medical Association and the American Association of Health Plans.
- HSTAT.
The National Library of Medicine's searchable collection of full-text clinical practice guidelines, technology assessments and health information. NOTE: In the "Jump to" area click on HSTAT.

Searching the Medical Literature for the Best Evidence
- Associations
Associations such as the
American Heart Association, the National Cancer Institute,
the American
Psychiatric Association or
the American Academy of Pediatrics
may post relevant evidence based medicine reviews or practice guidelines based on ebm reviews
on their Web sites. At least some of these will be
picked up by the National Guidelines Clearinghouse.
