General Policy

The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Library is committed to protecting your privacy to the greatest extent possible, subject to provisions of state and federal law. The Library believes privacy is an essential element of intellectual and academic freedom and subscribes to the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association , which states: "We protect each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted."

Personal Information

The OHSU Libraries take the collection of personal information required to provide services very seriously. Personal information is kept for the shortest amount of time necessary to complete the requested service transaction. If you visit the Library web site and do not provide personal information, the resulting logs contain information necessary only for analyzing the use of resources, troubleshooting problems, and improving services.

Access to personal information is restricted to library staff. Personal information is never used for commercial purposes and will not be revealed to any third party except by such process, order, or subpoena (including court orders resulting from the surveillance provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act) authorized by law and only after clearance from the OHSU Legal Department. The OHSU Library is supported in this goal by national, state and local laws and OHSU policies.

Other Sites

The OHSU Library web site has links to many other web sites, primarily databases and electronic journals which the Library has licensed for the use of OHSU students, faculty, and staff. Once you link to another site through a link that we provide, you are subject to the privacy policy of the new site - which may differ considerably from that of the OHSU Library. The Library is not responsible for the privacy practices of those web sites.
