Email from Dolores Judkins, June 30, 2005:

Now that you're all getting ready to send in your registration for PNC/MLA 2005 we thought you might want to know what else is happening in Portland while you're here. So, we'll be sending out occasional messages with places to go and things to see.

You might want to extend your stay so you can attend one of the following performances. You will need to get tickets in advance to some of them, so make your plans now.

Disney's The Lion King
Keller Auditorium (1.0 mile from the Governor)
"Visually stunning, technically astounding and with a musical score like none other you've heard. The entire savannah comes to life and as the music soars, Pride Rock slowly emerges from the mist."

Hot Flashes
Portland Metro Performing Arts Center, 9933 SE Pine (8 miles from the Governor)
An original hit musical about a 5-woman band that ages from 40 to 70. Get a group together for a group rate. It's a kick!

Oregon Ballet Theatre
Newmark Theatre (0.5 miles from the Governor)
"Right now, OBT has heat. It's a young company on the rise and watching its members become more comfortable and self-assured as Stowell continues to reinvent it as a flexible neoclassical troupe is one of the city's most intriguing ongoing cultural stories."

Underneath the Lintel
Portland Center for the Performing Arts (0.5 miles from the Governor)
"In this funny yet reflective play, a librarian's personal obsession with tracking down the miscreant who returned a book 123 years overdue leads to profound discoveries of cosmic significance. The play, like its protagonist, starts out modestly and amusingly and winds up offering insightful and grandiose observations about the meaning of life and that it is our drive to discover and to leave even the smallest mark on the world that defines us as human beings."
