General Information:
The OHSU Library is a member of
Orbis Cascade
Alliance, a consortium
of
academic libraries in the Northwest. One of the major benefits of
membership is access to patron-initiated borrowing of books via the union
catalog, called “Summit,” which contains the holdings of all
Orbis Cascade
Alliance members - over 28 million items.
What is Summit Borrowing? Who is eligible to use Summit Borrowing?
Summit borrowing is a Web-based service that allows OHSU students, faculty and staff with current library cards to request books from other
Orbis Cascade Alliance
libraries
. The service is fast, easy to use and accessible at any time from the
Library or your home or office, by connecting to the Summit catalog.
What can I request through Summit Borrowing?
All Orbis Cascade Alliance member libraries loan generally circulating books through this service, and some member libraries may loan other types of materials, such as videos, DVD's and music CD’s. The system will let you know whether or not the material you are requesting is available. Requests for journal articles and items unavailable via Summit Borrowing can be obtained through ILL Express.
How can I request Orbis Cascade Alliance materials?
Search the OHSU catalog or Summit union catalog. Once you have identified an item that you want to borrow, simply follow the on-screen instructions, starting with "REQUEST THIS ITEM." The system will prompt you for your institution, name, library barcode number and preferred pickup location. You can select any OHSU library for delivery. Summit will confirm your request and tell you what library the request has been routed to.
What about service for distance education students?
Distance education students who do not have a host campus library have a couple of options. They can (1) select any other Alliance library as a pickup location if one of those libraries is more convenient or (2) select the OHSU Distance Ed pickup option. Books will be mailed directly to students in the continental U.S. with a pre-paid return label.
How can I check the status of my request?
View the status of your request using the "your patron record" function in the OHSU catalog. You will be prompted for your name and library barcode number.
Can I renew Summit Borrowing materials?
Most materials can be renewed one time. Use the "your patron record" function in the OHSU catalog. You will be prompted for your name and library barcode number.
Where can I pick up or return Summit Borrowing materials?
Materials will be delivered for you to pick up at the circulation desk at the location you select within a couple of working days. Books are due back in 3 weeks and other selected materials such as videos in 3 days. Return Summit materials to any OHSU Library.
Are there any late fees for overdue Summit Borrowing materials?
Late fees are charged as follows: $0.50 per day for the first 10 days, $1.00 per day for the next 15 days. Lost item charge: $75.00 plus $15 processing fee.
What about journal articles and materials I can't find in the Summit catalog?
Requests for journal articles and items unavailable via Summit Borrowing can be obtained through ILL Express.
