Minutes

  • Survey class: Dolores Judkins
On April 11, 2003, PNC will be hosting a survey class at OHSU, which will include instruction on how to make a survey with Survey Monkey software and how to write a survey. Dolores, Patrice O’Donovan, and Peggy Baldwin will be the instructors.

  • OHSU was selected to participate in the statewide virtual reference program. The program will start April 9 and go through September. 21 Oregon libraries will participate. State LSTA funds are paying for the program. With the LSSI software, you can hold online classes, where up to 30 people meet at the same time on their computers and see what the instructor is doing. Mostly, reference will be live online chat, with some referrals to other libraries.

  • OHSLA Webpage Update: Karen Lippert
The OHSLA webpage is ready to be announced. Karen will announce it right away on the OHSLA list. She will also say that the directory page is under construction, and she will later send a message asking for member information to be put on the directory page. The directory information will be open to the public.

  • Silver Falls meeting: Cindy Muller
Dates for next two Silver Falls meetings are: July 24 & 25, 2003 and July 22 & 23, 2004. Cindy will look at what classes SLA has to offer. Some ideas for CE are: Knowledge management; licensing & copyright.

  • Scholarship policy: We will set aside $400 for scholarships this year, for four $100 scholarships, two for Silver Falls and two for the Fall meeting. People can use the money for CE and/or travel up to $100. If expenses are less than $100, we will only pay for the exact amount.

  • Membership structure: We are going to keep the membership structure institutional rather than change it to personal.

  • Martha Pyle, the new Treasurer, will send out renewals for OHLSA dues.

  • PNC/MLA 2005: Nothing to report on finding a hotel, although Dolores has talked to a couple hotels. Melissa will talk with Ann von Segen and Ann Haines to see if they are still interested in being co-chairs.

  • Phyllis McCulloch at Good Sam, the current OHSLA Archivist, is retiring soon, and we need to find a new Archivist. Phyllis has three boxes of OHSLA memorabilia, which might be housed in the OHSU History of Medicine Collection. Dolores will check this out. There are no volunteers for Archivist at this time.

  • Dolores agreed to chair the Bylaws Committee. The committee will make a few additions/corrections to the bylaws, and make more copies of them to distribute to members. Patrice O’Donovan volunteered to be on the committee.

  • The Serhold to OCLC conversion will have a second test run at the end of March. It will hopefully be working by the end of April.

  • Karen Lippert won the Ebsco scholarship to attend MLA. Tracy Dana, an intern at OHSU, won the Rittenhouse Award for best paper written by a library school student.

  • Would we like to have our fall meeting somewhere other than Portland? Central Oregon or the coast?

  • Thanks to Judith Hayes for hosting this meeting and teleconference!

Cordially submitted,
Karen Lippert
Acting Recording Secretary
