Minutes of OHSLA Business Meeting

Minutes

1. Meeting called to order by Cindy at 9:35 am on March 10, 2004.
2. General Announcements:
   1. Introductions all around the room.
   2. PNC/MLA - received some additional volunteers, still need more. Needed for Electronic Programs, Vendors/Speakers, and Contributed Papers Chairs. Please contact Ann von Segen if interested.

3. Current Business:
   1. OLA presentation scheduled for April 16th in Eugene Oregon--planning going well. Coordinator is Karen Lippert, OHSU.
   2. OHSLA Survey - Summary
      1. Most members ambivalent about being officers for 2004.
      2. Board has suspended by-laws while in transition.
      3. Considering modifying roles of officers to working on programs as a team instead of the responsibility of the President-elect.

   3. Planning on one annual meeting with "beefer" CE programs.
   4. Most members feel OHSLA is important and want it to continue especially given budget constraints and cuts.
   5. Dolores will resend the survey and provide a link to view results.

4. New Business:
   1. Silver Falls: meeting scheduled for July 22-23rd.
      1. Attempting to recruit Pat Wagner, presentor from Sacramento PNC meeting discussing "Marketing as if your library depended on it"
      2. Will open the program to PORTALS, SLA, and OLA members
   2. OHSLA will submit a LSTA grant for the Go Local Project
      1. NNLM regional initiative to link local health information
      2. Dolores will submit by April 16th deadline
   3. Role of Support Staff
      1. Since OHSLA is an institutional based membership, discussion focused on including support staff in membership.
      2. Goal is to increase membership and attendence at CE meetings
      3. Limited discussion on whether all institutions could support librarian and support staff being away from work at the same time.
      4. President will send out a message to listserv, encouraging support staff to join OHSLA.
      5. Discussion held on whether to initially appoint a support staff person to the board or to schedule an election. Goal is that all members will be eligible for all position in the future.
