Access Services Coordinator

Position Summary:

As the OHSU Library’s next Access Services Coordinator, you will be a service-oriented, public-facing, forward-looking lead worker responsible for meeting the needs of library users. In this position, you will staff the Library’s Service Desk, provide support in person, over the phone, and via e-mail and chat to the faculty, staff, and researchers in the OHSU community as well as the general public. You will also serve as the primary backup to the Library’s interlibrary loan and document delivery coordinator.  

In this role, you will support the Library’s mission, vision, and values by working effectively and collaboratively with a diverse student, faculty, staff, and public population. You will need excellent customer service skills, a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, comfort with technical troubleshooting, and the ability to use independent judgment in applying appropriate policies and procedures. As a lead worker, you will have a high degree of autonomy in your work, the opportunity to participate in or lead projects within the department and across the Library, and have room to develop new knowledge and skills to improve library services and processes.

  • Work schedule:  9:15 am to 5:45 pm, Monday through Friday (required)
  • Work location:  OHSU Marquam Hill campus in Portland, OR (onsite work required)
  • Union  representation: AFSCME Local 328
  • Salary: Commensurate with experience, minimum $26.90 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience

  • Three years of experience working as a Library Technician in an academic library, OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with two years of Library Technician or equivalent experience, OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience in customer service, program coordination,  project management, and/or technical support, preferably in a lead role

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and independent judgment in applying appropriate library policies, procedures, and standards to work processes.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse library users.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated technology skills and comfort with technical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with integrated library systems.
  • Ability to adapt and adjust quickly to meet immediate needs.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision; comfortable making decisions and solving problems within broad policy guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • At least one year of lead or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Three or more years in an academic library in a public service department
  • Experience using fulfillment and/or patron account features in Alma and the Primo user interface
  • Experience with RapidILL or Rapido resource sharing platforms
  • Experience with the DOCLINE system.
  • Experience using OCLC’s Worldshare ILL and/or ILLiad.
  • Experience with resource sharing billing functions, such as EFTS or IFM.
  • Experience searching scholarly databases and library online catalogs.
  • Experience with academic library collections and inventory conventions
  • Space planning or inventory management
  • Project management

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Understanding of relational databases as used for user accounts and inventory management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to or experience in applying diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices.
