Interlibrary Loan for Unaffiliated Users and Corporate Clients

WHAT-

Books, copies of journal articles, audiovisuals, slides, dissertations, government documents and other materials not owned by OHSU Library can be obtained from other libraries or commercial document delivery services through the Interlibrary Loan Program.

WHO-
Interlibrary Loan Service is primarily for OHSU faculty, staff, and students. However, OHSU will obtain materials for other Oregon and SW Washington requestors who do not have regular access to library services and who ha ve an OHSU Library card. Interlibrary loans for OHSU requestors are given priority over those for off-campus requestors.

HOW-
Order materials electronically by using the ordering option within the Ovid databases or by registering for an ILL Express account. Click on the "First Time Users" link and "Add Account" information for billing. Exit to the Main Menu to order documents.

Licensed Oregon health professionals are eligible for Ovid accounts. For more information, go to the sign-up form.

Phone requests are not accepted.

WHEN-
Materials held locally or requested from document delivery services can often be obtained overnight or in a few days. Articles requested from PORTALS Libraries are delivered via Ariel over the Internet and usually arive within 48 hours. However it may take 1-2 weeks longer to obtain books or journal articles from other libraries. Factors influencing the length of time it takes to fill a request are: completeness and accuracy of the information provided by the requestor , location and availability of the materials, and turn-around time and shipping method of the lending library.

Use of FAX and Federal Express can greatly reduce the time required to obtain materials, often allowing same-day or overnight service. Please let the Interlibrary Loan Department know if you have special time requirements for obtaining materials.

FEES-
All fees incurred by the OHSU Library in obtaining materials are passed through to requestors. The average charge for an item obtained from a hospital or out-of-state library is $10-$15. The average charge for an item obtained from a commercial supplier is $20-$25. Most suppliers charge a premium for fax service (an additional $20).

In addition, OHSU Interlibrary Loan Service charges a $15 per item processing fee for requests from non-OHSU clients. FAX and RUSH services are available for an additional $5 surcharge per item per service.

Please note: Effective June 2, 2003, any Document Delivery request that is not submitted through ILL Express or OVID databases will be charged a special handling fee of $3.00.

Requestors may charge to Visa/Mastercard or establish a Deposit Account ($200 minimum). Clients requesting Federal Express service must include their account number on the request.

HOURS-
The Interlibrary Loan Department is staffed from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For additional information on this or other Document Delivery services, e-mail or call 503-494-3491.
