FAQ:
Access to Electronic Resources
|
Which information resources can I access from off-campus?
If you are OHSU faculty or staff or an admitted student, you may access our databases and most of our electronic journals with your Library barcode number. If you are a non-OHSU patron who is a licensed Oregon health professional, you are not eligible to access most Library resources from off-campus. However, you may be eligible for an OVID account, which provides access to MEDLINE, CINAHL, and other databases. To see if you are eligible and/or to sign up, please go to the Library Barcode Application Form.
Do I need to obtain off-campus access to use OVID?
Yes. You will use your Library barcode with your last name to access Ovid from off-campus. You no longer need an Ovid username and password unless you plan to save search strategies or use the SDI/Auto Alert/Current Awareness service.
How do OHSU admitted students, staff, and paid faculty sign up to access Library resources from off-campus?
If you currently have a library card, you can access the resources with your last name and the library barcode. If you do not already have a library barcode, apply for one at the OHSU Main Library on the 3rd floor of the BICC building, or at the Samuel L. Diack Library in the Paul Clayton Building of the OGI School of Science & Engineering. OHSU faculty, staff, and students and licensed Oregon health professionals may complete the Web-based application located at https://www.ohsu.edu/library/libcdapp.shtml.
Some full text journals are freely available to anyone on the Internet, either for a limited time or permanently. These titles are listed on the electronic journal pages, but they do not require a login.
Some resources cannot be accessed from off-campus because the vendor/publisher will not permit off-campus access. Others are unavailable because the technology they use to validate users is not compatible with the software we use for validating off-campus users. If a resource you need is not available for off-campus access, please drop a note to library@ohsu.edu to let us know. We will check whether the status of off-campus availablity has changed.
No, just click Yes to continue. EZProxy is set up to use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt your login, protecting it from hackers. Once you successfully log in, EZProxy connects you with the resource you selected, which in most cases does not use SSL technology. Your browser then warns you that the site you are being sent to is not using this technology.

The new (as of August 2002) off-campus system uses EZProxy, which will not work with AOL's browser. If you are currently using an AOL browser and want to successfully access OHSU Library resources from off-campus, please download Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.
You can tailor Internet Explorer's Autocomplete setting to remember your barcode, so the barcode will populate the field when you start to type it in. Here are instructions on on how to do this.
The only way to access OHSU Library electronic resources from off-campus is with the internet using your name and barcode (Click here for more details). Except for the OHSU website, all access to the internet is blocked in WTS including links to electronic journals and databases.
