New OHSU Library Policy on Overdue Fines

Effective June 27, 2005, the OHSU Library will implement a $.50 per day fine for overdue materials in the general circulating collection with a $20 per item maximum. When fines total $20, circulation privileges will be suspended, including Summit borrowing privileges for OHSU faculty, staff and students.

Circulation periods will remain the same:

Material Type Circulation Period
Books 28 days, 3 renewals
Journals > 5 years 7 days, no renewals
Multimedia14 days, 3 renewals

Library users will continue to receive courtesy reminders by email in advance of the due date. The notices contain information on how to renew materials online and by phone as well as information about the possibility of library privileges being suspended.

This change will bring the OHSU Library policy on fines in line with most public and academic libraries. It also encourages library users to return materials on time so that materials can be available for use by others.
