Electronic Resources: Access and Use Restrictions

Most electronic resources provided by the OHSU Library are governed by license agreements with the publishers, electronic journal providers, and/or vendors of these resources. The OHSU Library wants to ensure that authorized users understand the importance of complying with terms and conditions set forth in the licenses. Failure to do so allows the vendor to terminate our access to the product.

The majority of licenses contain the following user responsibilities and access restrictions. Please familiarize yourself with them.

  1. Systematic downloading and/or archiving of excessive portions of databases or electronic journals is prohibited as well as copying of entire issues.
  2. Posting downloaded material on a website or to an e-mail list is prohibited.
  3. Removal of copyright notices or other notices contained in materials.
  4. Use of materials for commercial purposes is prohibited.
  5. Sharing of OHSU passwords or other access information is prohibited.

Some publishers allow self-archiving of article in either the pre- or post-publication format with certain restrictions and authorizations; however, many do not. Check the publishers Website and SHERPA at http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo.php for information. Authors who choose to self-archive are responsible for all conditions set by the publisher.
