The Department of Pharmacy Services provides comprehensive pharmacy services to both inpatients and outpatients. Patient evaluation, including identifying potential and actual medication-related problems, is provided by OHSU decentralized clinical pharmacist specialists and College of Pharmacy faculty. Clinical specialties include:

Basic Science Courtyard
  • solid organ transplantation
  • pediatrics/neonatology
  • diabetes clinic
  • clinical care
  • internal medicine clinic
  • nutritional support
  • pharmacokinetics/nephrology
  • outpatient DVT service
  • oncology/bone marrow transplantation
  • The department also operates a drug information service, investigational drug service, and drug policy program. Unit dose medications and sterile products are prepared centrally 24 hours a day. Automated dispensing technology is used in most patient care areas.

    The Department of Pharmacy Services provides two ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice positions and one ASHP-accredited specialty residency position in drug information. OHSU pharmacists serve as preceptors to pharmacy students, technicians in training programs, and pharmacy residents in the Portland Metro area.

    Development Initiatives, Plans and Goals

    The Department is in the midst of an aggressive redesign with the following goals:Clinical specialties include:

    1. Further decentralize pharmacy services and maximize the use of clinical/cognitive pharmacist skills as well as the training and skills of our pharmacy technicians.
    2. Redesign the distribution workflow and maximize use of automation and technology in order to decrease medication errors and imrpove efficiency.
