Many years ago (around 1980) my son was at Doernbecher. He was 20 months old when he was admitted there. He contracted spinal meningitis (he had the worst kind, the kind that kills adults) and had less then a 10% chance of surviving. He was in a coma and looked like he had died. He had two doctor's that didn't think that he was going to live, but to their suprise, when they came back from their days off, he was sitting up in bed with the help of pillows and wide awake.
When the doctors walked into the room and saw him sitting up and smiling, they both got tears in their eyes and turned and left the room. He became known as the miracle baby all through out the VA, OHSU, and Doernbecher. Today he is now going to be 34 years old and has a five year-old son of his own. Thank you so much for all that you do! Without you, I would not have my son today!
