My Doernbecher Story

Michayla's Story - Doernbecher Children's Hospital

Michayla's Story

Our twin daughters have been followed in the CDRC since their birth. One of our girls, Michayla, had an Atrial Septum Defect that we knew would need repaired at some point. Well that some point came the 6th of March. She had open heart surgery to repair the 1.4cm hole plus the 2 holes they discovered once they got in there.

As parents, we were mortified at the thought of our child (4 yrs) having such an invasive surgery. The staff from the nurses, to our PA to our surgeon were all very approachable, open about what we should expect, there to answer all our questions and to make us feel more at ease.

We were impressed with the care our daughter received in the pediatric ICU and on 9 South. Thank you for making a very scary ordeal into a very manageable and positive experience.

Michayla continues to heal but is doing wonderful thanks to the amazing and caring staff at Doernbecher's!!
