My Doernbecher Story

Claire's Story - Doernbecher Children's Hospital

Claire's Story

In 2006, when my daughter Claire was 3 days old, I noticed a little red scratch on her nose. When we left the hospital a few days later, the scratch looked inflamed and a little bigger and by the time she was a few weeks old, I knew that something was not right. We went to her doctor and were told that Claire’s “scratch” was actually a hemangioma.

After doing some research and speaking to our pediatrician, I made an appointment at The Hemangioma and Vascular Birthmarks Clinic at Doernbecher. Dr. Carol MacArthur was so wonderful to work with. She came up with a game plan and walked us through it step-by-step. After several months of treatment, Dr. MacArthur and her team at Doernbecher successfully removed Claire’s hemangioma. She has healed so well you can barely see the scar, and we couldn’t be happier. In fact, when Claire needed tubes in her ears years later, we called upon Dr. MacArthur’s expertise in Pediatric Otolaryngology to perform the surgery.
