My Doernbecher Story

Casie's Story

Our story begins August 2004, our son was two. At a routine well child check, a possible murmur was heard and we were referred to Doernbecher. At that time doctors discovered there was a murmur and he was monitored once a year for the next 6 years until August of 2010. We arrived that morning for our check up which turned into so much more...Echo didn't look right, numbers were worse and then the doctor met with us. Further testing was a must, medications, monitoring, stop all physical activity. Our son had open heart surgery on October 15, 2010 under the care of the amazing doctors Brendan Kelly and Steven Langley. After all was said and done my son was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) a heart condition that is rarely diagnosed until its to late. I thank God everyday for saving our son and I know if it wasn't for the doctors at Doernbecher he would not be here today. I will be forever grateful for every doctor, nurse, counselor and volunteer at Doernbecher who treat us like family as we continue on this journey with our son.
