My Doernbecher Story
My little baby Alice is a miracle baby because she beat the odds. She was born at our local hospital on February 1, 2011, and right away the doctors knew that something wasn't right with her heart but were not sure what. On February 3. 2011 we were discharged and sent up to doernbecher where they could give us more answers.
February 3, 2011 we found out that our baby girl Alice had AVSD or a missing chamber in her heart (Atriovebtricular Septum Defect) this mean open heart surgery for our baby girl.
We got word that on April 4, 2011 she would have open heart surgery. We got there at 6 am we went back for surgery preparation and that is where Alice flatlined. I have never seen so many nurses and doctors run to the aid of one child. They were so caring and understanding, we really couldn't of asked for a better hospital or better team. Alice was placed on life support for 10 days where her little body tried to give up so many times. But the hospital nurses and staff wouldn't let that happen.
On April 14, 2011 without knowing for sure she would make it out of surgery they decided that it was the best option for her, and after what seemed like an eternity she was taken back to her room. We were there a total of almost 3 months doernbecher more or less became our home!
Alice is now a happy and healthy 20 month old because she had the best medical team surrounding her every step of the way and I can't be more thankful to everyone up there.
