Neurophysiology — EEG / EMG
The EEG laboratory provides diagnostic services for OHSU. An EEG, also known as an electroencephalogram, is a test to detect problems in the electrical activity of the brain. It can be used to help diagnose seizure disorders, look for causes of confusion and to evaluate head injuries, tumors, infections, degenerative diseases and metabolic diseases that affect the brain. The EMG laboratory performs all of the nerve conduction and EMG studies at OHSU. An EMG, or electromyography, is a test that assesses the health of the muscles and the nerves controlling the muscles. The test is most often used when people have symptoms of weakness and an examination shows impaired muscle strength. It can help to differentiate primary muscle conditions from muscle weakness caused by neurologic disorders.
