CARE Clinic (Cancer Assessment and Risk Evaluation Clinic)
The Cancer Assessment and Risk Evaluation Clinic [CARE Clinic] was established in 2006 by the divisions of Oncology and Surgery at the Oregon Health and Science University
The purpose of the clinic is to:
- Assess patient’s cancer susceptibility: Cancer risk assessment involves gathering a family history and discovering any exposures to cancer-causing agents, including tobacco and alcohol use.
- Provide a multidisciplinary approach to care: Caregivers from the field of oncology, surgery, gastroenterology, medical genetics, nutrition, social work, and pathology will see patients on the same day, as required to meet individual needs. Recommendations are provided specifically for each patient depending on individual risk.
- Discuss genetic testing options
- Risk management: The CARE Clinic will provide patients with personalized screening and/or treatment recommendations, based on a comprehensive evaluation of risk.
- Promote ongoing cancer prevention education
