Nurses Week – May 6-12

During Nurses Week, May 6 to 12, OHSU honors the 2,400 dedicated men and women committed to innovation, compassion and excellence. These qualities are the very essence of what attracts nurses to the profession and what makes them so special in the eyes of their patients.

Each year, OHSU seeks exemplars from its nursing staff that embody these very qualities in caring for their patients, their colleagues and their communities. Eleven individuals are selected as Nurses of the Year, recognized throughout the week and the year. This year’s awardees come from diverse backgrounds and represent the broad scope of the nursing profession. Read their unique stories in our 2013 Nurse of the Year accolade book.

This year, OHSU nurses have chosen to donate $10,000 to three local non-profits, further demonstrating their investment in people beyond the walls of the hospital. CARES Northwest, Project Access Now and the Recuperative Care Program of Central City Concern will each receive funds based on their important work providing care to those in most critical need and their alignment with OHSU’s mission.

There’s likely a nurse who’s profoundly touched you, your family or your community. Nurses Week is the perfect opportunity to say thank you.
