Requirements: - 4 mL blood in a heparinized green top tube or 1-2 mL plasma. Deliver to lab within 4 hrs or separate plasma, freeze and transport frozen. For requisition slips.
- Pediatric Specimen
Requirements: - 1 mL blood in a 3 mL heparinized green top tube
- Comments:
Includes free carnitine and acylcarnitine.
Indication: Investigation of patients with muscle weakness, cardiomyopathy, liver disease, inborn errors of carnitine synthesis or metabolism, sudden infant death syndrome, disorders of fatty acid or organic acid metabolism.
