Back Story
OHSU's push for sustainability is in response to the desires of OHSU employees that continuing business as usual would result in significant increases in operating costs. Sustainability strives for a balance between Social, Environmental and Economic (SEE) needs. Pursuing sustainability benefits threefold: It allows for improving the environment while improving quality of life and the bottom line in the corporate world.

Since our inception in 2004, member participation is voluntary, and varies widely; from 'interested parties' who submit ideas via the web site, to 'active members' who attend the monthly meetings and may participate in focused TaskTeams, event planning, grant/project research, and/or local outreach.

The underlying acceptance of risk (while planning for it as well) is essential to upholding our reputation as a cutting-edge leader locally, nationally and throughout the world. OHSU is considered a beacon of hope and healing on the West Hills skyline and we lay the path with a clear and navigational trail for others to pursue.

The GreenTeam is responsible for:
  1. Establishing annual goals for improved environmental performance,
  2. Acting toward fulfillment of those goals,
  3. Monitoring progress toward those goals,
  4. Submitting annual reports to the OHSU administration,
  5. Educating employees,
  6. Seeking opportunities to partner with others in the community in support of ecological projects and advocacy initiatives, and
  7. Meet regularly.

The GreenTeam is responsible for applying “Healing, Teaching, and Discovery” to lessening our impact on human and environmental health, while paying attention to the financial impact of suggested practices.

OHSU manages its operations in a manner demonstrably protective of human health and the environment. OHSU seeks new and better ways to meet its environmental goals through conservation, reduction, reuse and recycling programs. OHSU is committed to improving environmental management in its hospitals and to partnering with others in its community to safeguard the environment.
