Microarray Resources
(under construction)

The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Core is a unit within the OHSU Gene Microarray Shared Resource (GMSR). The GMSR is a centralized facility providing RNA expression profiling services to OHSU researchers and consists of three units: the Affymetrix Microarray Core (AMC), the HEDCO/OCI Spotted Microarray Core (SMC), and Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Core (BBC).

The mission of the BBC is to provide bioinformatics and biostatistics support to the GMSR core laboratories and OHSU investigators conducting microarray studies.

Services
Services include biostatistical and bioinformatics analysis of microarray data, development of bioinformatics tools/software and data management systems, statistical consultation, and assistance with protocol, grant and manuscript preparation. For more details, please refer to BBC Support and Services.

Personnel
The BBC Analysis team includes 2 faculty members and 3 staff (PhD and Masters level biostatisticians, Masters level bioinformaticist). The BBC Bioinformatic Development team includes 1 faculty supervisor, 2 Masters level informaticists and 2 Bachelor level developers. Faculty and staff biosketches can be found on the Faculty and Staff section of this website.

Resources and Environment
The Bioinformatics & Biostatistics Core (BBC) of the Gene Microarray Shared Resource (GMSR) has the following high-performance computing resources for statistical analysis and data management.. The high performance computng resources include the following systems: two Sun Sunfire E3800 with 4 CPUs each at 900MHZ/8-MB cache and 4GB of memory; a Sun Fire V880 with 4 900MHZ CPUs, 8 GB memory, and local hard drives of 438 GB in size; and a SUN Enterprise Server E450 with four 480MHz processors, 4GB memory, four 36GB internal drives, and 327GB SUN StorEdge T3WG RAID system. The storage includes 2 Sun StorEdge 3960, each having 2 T3 Arrays with 18 hard-drives of 36GB each. The software packages installed include Oracle 8.1.7, SAS 8e, Splus 6.0, R, MatLab 6.5, Java and Perl. The Information Technology Group (ITG) at OHSU provides daily system administration, maintenance and backup of SUN computers. The BBC maintains the Bioinformatics Suite, a computer laboratory for GMSR investigators. The Bioinformatics Suite has four high-performance PCs loaded with data analysis software, GeneSight, SpotFire, OmniViz and statistical software (SAS and STATISTICA). Investigators can access the suite and recieve training on the various software by scheduling an appointment.
