Support: PDA Intellisync Guide - PalmPilot
Things To Remember
Each user must have a separate copy of the Intellisync software – sharing a departmental copy is a violation of the license agreement. ITG has written a knowledgebase article about which version of Intellisync is required for various models of PDA:
http://itgknow/viewpage.aspx?key_id=2677
There no longer is an option to purchase a hard copy of the Intellisync media on campus. The user can download the software from Nokia’s Online Store:
http://www.sync.com/is_desktop_main.html ($69.95 current price at the time of publication).
Create a backup copy of your Intellisync download so that you do not need to pay for either the “Backup copy CD of your Order” or “Download Guarantee”).
After installing the Palm Desktop software to the PC (software came with the Palm Pilot), follow these instructions:
Installation Instructions
- Place device in cradle.
- Double-click on the Intellisync installer. Click Next past the opening page.
- Change the radio button to “I accept the terms in the license agreement” and click Next.
- Enter your name, organization, and choose whether you would like the program to be accessible to all users that log into this computer, or just the currently-authenticated user.
- Keep the default location and click Next.
- Select Custom. Click Next.
- Click the arrow and choose “This feature will not be available.” For all program options except Novell GroupWise and Palm OS. Click Next. The software will now install.
- Click on Finish.
Configuration of GroupWise Syncing Instructions
- After step 8 above, the software will ask for a serial number. Please enter the serial number that was emailed to you with your downloaded application.
- Once the Intellisync Configuration appears, you can set your calendar and your tasks to sync with GroupWise. ITG does not recommend that you sync your Contacts [the field definitions are incompatible] or your Email.
- Click in the check box of the first application to sync.
- Click Choose and select GroupWise. A second box will pop up asking you to specify a user name and password. These fields are not optional [despite their saying so]. You must enter your GroupWise login name and password for Intellisync 5.5 to function. They are encrypted though and do not pose a security breach.
- Do steps 2-3 for the other GroupWise applications you wish to sync.
- Click Configure… and Advanced Settings… [lower-right side of main Intellisync window] to change settings.
- Click on Field Mapping (lower-right side of Advanced window). Make sure all GroupWise fields that you want synced to your Palm are mapped. If not, follow the directions on the Field Mapping window to map or unmap fields.
NOTE: If using an Intellisync version prior to 5.5, you will need to click the space between Location and Place to add a sync arrow to include this data.
- Click OK twice to return to main Intellisync window.
- Click OK when done. HotSync will automatically be restarted after you complete your Intellisync configuration.
- Press the HotSync button on your PalmPilot (in the cradle).
- Your PalmPilot will give you a "Synchronization Complete" message when done.
To sync from now on...
Place the PalmPilot in the cradle and press its HotSync button whenever you wish to synchronize.
NOTE: If nothing happens when you press the HotSync button, you may have connected your cradle to a port that is not turned on. Try another port. If that doesn't work, call the ITG HelpDesk (4-2222) to schedule tech support. |
