GroupWise - WebAccess

You can access your OHSU GroupWise account via most Web browsers, including Netscape and Internet Explorer. NOTE: In order for the Java components of this new version of WebAccess to work properly in the Windows version of Netscape 6.x, the latest Java 1.4.0 Plugins must be installed. This resolves issues with viewing Calendar Items, Java Address Book lookup, Spell Checker, etc. Download and install the latest plugin at: http://www.ohsu.edu/groupwise/j2re-1_4_0-win.exe.

Instructions for accessing GroupWise WebAccess:

  1. Launch your preferred Web browser (Netscape 6.x users, refer to note at top of page).
  2. Go to: http://www.ohsu.edu/gwsecure
  3. Enter your login id in the Name field and your password in the Password field.
  4. Click Login.
  5. When finished using GroupWise WebAccess, click exit button to exit and return to the Login page.

WebAccess Layout and Navigation

  • Folders displayed at left are similar to the standard GroupWise window, with the exception of the Unopened Items folder, which allows the user to view only unopened items.
  • Toolbar icons common to those in the standard GroupWise window are displayed on the WebAccess toolbar, including a proxy button--proxy button-- for proxying to other user accounts.
  • To return to the Mailbox and display folders after viewing the Calendar, click web mailbox in the WebAccess toolbar at left.

Using the Address Book

The WebAccess Address Book comes in two flavors: html and java. Users whose browsers don't support java will need to click the HTML Address Book link located in the Address Book.

To locate a name in the Address Book and add it to an e-mail:

  1. Click address book in the WebAccess toolbar in the main window, or address book button in email from a new message.
  2. Type in search criteria, select the appropriate address book and click search button.
  3. From the matches displayed below, place a check next to the desired name and click the appropriate send designation from the "To:", "CC:" and "BC:" buttons located above the list. Note: The "Copy" option allows users to copy the name to a new address book.
  4. From the new column that appears at right, select "Mail" (if Address Book was launched from WebAccess toolbar) or "OK" (if Address Book was launched from a new message). Note: Click the delete that appears next to names in this column to delete the name.
  5. Click add entry button to add a new entry to an address book.
  6. Click address book options button to create, delete or rename Personal Address Books.

Options

Click options button to access the following options:

  • Password: to change your GroupWise password
  • Proxy Access: to grant proxy rights to others.
  • Rules: to create/delete/activate/deactivate rules.
  • Signature: to add a signature to outgoing messages
  • Time Zone: to change the GroupWise time zone
NOTE: After making changes to an option, click save button, then close button to close the Options window and return to the main window.

GroupWise - Backing Up a Message Before Clicking the Send Button

Messages that take a long time to compose are occasionally lost during the sending process because the GroupWise Web server logs users off after 20 minutes of inactivity (typing doesn't count as activity).

It is recommended that you type messages in a separate application like WordPerfect or Word before logging in, then cut and paste them into your message when you're ready to send them. Another option is to back up long e-mail messages before clicking the Send button:

  1. Click in the message area of the e-mail and press CTRL + A to select the content.
  2. Press CTRL + C to copy the content to the clipboard.
  3. Send the e-mail.
  4. If you receive an error message or mailer-daemon e-mail indicating the message was not sent correctly, start a new e-mail.
  5. In the message area, press CTRL + V to paste the message content.
