Clinical Rotations

Clinical Track

The residency program clinical tract consists of 4 years of otolaryngology that are divided among the subspecialty services. Experience on the Head and Neck Oncology Reconstructive Service, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Rhinology, Otology, and Pediatric Service, are divided among various rotations in the 4 years. Residents also spend 6 months doing a basic science research project under the guidance of the clinical or basic scientists.

Research Program

The department has a T32 training grant from the NIH, which supports a 7-year research track. Residents complete the same curriculum as those in the clinical track, but in addition, are allowed to take 2 years between the 4th and 5th year otolaryngology programs to spend time in a laboratory associated with the department, and complete a research project. During this time, they are exposed to all of the research facilities and are expected to be able to have adequate grant application skills upon completion.

Three residents are appointed to the program each year, two residents to the clinical program and one resident to the research track.
