Dr. Gross is an Assistant Professor of Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology. He received a B.A. in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis before graduating Magna Cum Laude with an M.D. degree from Oregon Health and Science University in 1998. He then completed an internship in general surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and subsequent residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University. He also trained for 2½ years as a Senior Fellow in Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Gross is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and the advanced training council of the American Head and Neck Society. Dr. Gross is a dedicated surgeon-scientist with a passion for clinical cancer research. His current research efforts are focused on the development and validation of improved prognostic tools for head and neck cancer patients, the study of the molecular basis of carcinogenesis in humans and the application of novel molecular therapeutics. He coordinates his research with the laboratory of Dr. Xiao-Jing Wang and with the Oregon Cancer Institute. He is actively involved in numerous collaborative and multi-institutional clinical trials. His clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck squamous cell cancers, salivary gland and skull base tumors. Dr. Gross has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards including Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Institutes of Health Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award and Clinical Research Loan Repayment Program Award. He was also the recipient of the prestigious American Society of Clinical Oncology Young Investigator Award in 2004 and the American Association for Cancer Research – Gerald B.
