Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery
THE HEAD AND NECK SURGERY/ONCOLOGY PROGRAM

Education

Although the Section of Head and Neck Surgery/Oncology primarily is involved in the education of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery residents, we also participate in the teaching of residents in General Surgery, as well as medical students.

A comprehensive two-year didactic program devoted to head and neck surgery/oncology is used to supplement the education individuals derive from their exposure to the patients seen and treated by the faculty.

Bi-weekly head-and-neck-specific tumor boards, planning conferences and didactic sessions are held in conjunction with colleagues in related disciplines, including endocrinology (for diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid), neurosurgery and neurotology (for the management of tumors of the skull base), and dermatologic oncology.

Residency training under close staff supervision is an integral part of this section's activities and helps provide the 24-hour coverage and manpower that excellence in head and neck surgical care demands.

Participation by community physicians who wish to avail themselves of the section's resources and experience for patient care or the didactic educational programs is welcomed. Mini-fellowships with an emphasis on exposure to specific OR techniques can be arranged.
