Meniere's Disease

The cause of Meniere's disease is unknown in most cases. Treatment can consist of both medical and surgical management. Medical management is often successful and has consisted of primarily a low salt diet, a diuretic medication, and vestibular suppressants. When medical management fails, surgical management can be considered. If a surgical option is chosen, it must be tailored to each patient's individual situation. Options include:

  • Endolymphatic sac shunt surgery
  • Gentamycin instillation into the middle ear
  • Vestibular nerve section
  • Labyrinthectomy
