Children really don’t understand how quickly and easily you can kill with a gun.  A gun safe with a combination you change frequently or with a key that you wear on your person at all times may afford better protect.  Better yet, reevaluate if you really want to have guns in your house with your children.  The child most likely to use your gun to kill themselves or someone else is your teenager—the child you are most likely to give access.
