Pediatric Emergency Services (PES)
staff staff realize the importance of communication with primary care providers and pediatric sub-specialists
to ensure optimal care of the pediatric patient.
Referral providers are strongly encouraged to contact the ED (503-494-7551) for all incoming patients
and may relay information to our communication specialists or directly to the ED attending. Helpful
information include patient demographics, presenting problem, current work-up and treatment, and
specific requests about type of evaluation, specific treatment, and further communication.
The referring physician or clinic will be contacted for all admissions, need for urgent sub-specialist
follow-up, or concerns of child abuse or neglect prior to disposition.
All OHSU ED charts are dictated and a copy is sent to the Primary Care Provider (PCP) and
to any consultants. Any subsequent referral to a sub-specialist will be coordinated with
the patient's PCP. If a laboratory value (e.g., positive culture result) or radiograph
interpretation subsequently needs further action, this also will be coordinated through the PCP's office.
