Medical Social Workers are available in the ED from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.,
7 days a week to assist in child abuse and neglect, behavioral and
psychiatric issues, and case management issues. Pediatric sub-
specialists are available 24 hours a day and management is
coordinated with the primary care provider. Pediatric Emergency
Services (PES) can help facilitate after-hours outpatient lab draws
and imaging studies and coordinate care for positive results.
Pain control for pediatric patients is important to us. We use the
"Numby" lidocaine iontophorsis topical anethetic system for IV starts
and LPs and supply EMLA cream to patients who will have
subsequent procedures at follow-up. We use LET (lidocaine,
epinephrine and tetracaine) gel as our topical anesthetic for
laceration repair. Our goal is to provide relief of pain to the children
we care for.
PES was the first service in the area to train for and use Dermabond
tissue adhesive for pediatric laceration repairs and to use diagnostic
ultrasound technology to image pediatric trauma patients
