Ritu Sahni, M.D., MPH
Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Sahni is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) and completed an EMS Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. He serves as Medical Director for the regional OHSU Emergency Communications Center and the Lake Oswego Fire Department. Among his many responsibilities, Dr. Sahni serves as the Oregon State EMS Medical Director.
The Oregon Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (OCEP) has chosen Dr. Ritu Sahni as the 2010 OCEP Member of the Year for his outstanding work with EMS at the state level and contributions to their organization. He will be publically awarded at their 28th OCEP Winter Conference in Sunriver on January 31, 2011.
In Fall of 2010, Dr. Sahni was elected as president-elect of the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP). As president-elect, Dr. Sahni will serve on the association?s Executive Committee and will become president in two years. He serves as secretary-treasurer of NAEMSP until the end of January 2011, when he will assume his new responsibilities. Previously he was Chairman of its Standards and Practice Committee. In addition to being an active member of NAEMSP, Dr. Sahni sits on the Board of Directors for the Advocates for Emergency Medical Services, a coalition of major EMS organizations dedicated to promoting, educating and increasing awareness among decision-makers in Washington on issues affecting EMS providers.
Dr. Sahni said it is a "particularly exciting time," as the American Board of Medical Specialties has named Emergency Medical Services the latest official medical subspecialty. As a result, NAEMSP will be involved in growing and developing the subspecialty and creating greater awareness.
