Dr. Heilman joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2014. He serves as the medical director for the OHSU transfer center, emergency telemedicine and continuous quality improvement for the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Heilman also serves as the Administrative Fellowship Co-Director for the Department. Dr. Heilman's research interests include transitions in care, quality improvement education and emergency department operations. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, photography and spending time with family.

Dr. John Ma serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is the Immediate Past Chair of the Professional Board for OHSU Healthcare. Dr. Ma also served as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Missouri/Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, where he had been Vice Chair since 2000. Upon graduation from residency, he joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. He has served as an editor on 16 reference textbooks, including Ma and Mateer's Emergency Ultrasound (all 3 editions) and Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine: A Comprehensive Study Guide, 7th and 8th editions. He has focused his research primarily on the applications of ultrasound in diagnosing injuries in trauma patients.

Dr. Newgard joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2007. He is currently a Professor and serves as the Director for the Center for Policy and Research in Emergency Medicine. His interests include EMS/out-of-hospital medicine, trauma, and advanced statistics. Dr. Newgard enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, painting, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Tanski joined the Department of Emergency Medicine as full-time faculty in July 2014 after completing an ED Administration Fellowship at OHSU. She serves as the Clinical Director of Operations for the department and has an interest in patient flow, service excellence, and population health. Dr. Tanski also serves as the Department's Observation Unit Director and Administrative Fellowship Co-Director. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, running, cooking meals, and spending time with family.
